Bikecoin 2026: 40,000 km to make USI even more sustainable
Walking or cycling to USI, collecting Bikecoins, and working together towards a concrete goal for more sustainable mobility. From 1 October to 15 December 2026, the USI community is invited to take part in Bikecoin, a challenge that aims to cover the equivalent of a trip around the world using slow mobility. Once the community reaches a collective total of 40,000 km, USI has committed to improving bicycle parking facilities across its sites.
Participating means contributing to the common milestone through your daily commutes between home and university by choosing to cycle or walk. Every recorded route allows you to accumulate Bikecoins while simultaneously helping the entire community move closer to the 40,000 km target. Up to four logged routes per day are valid, each at least 500 metres long.
Alongside the team effort, there is an individual challenge too. The participant who claims first place in the overall leaderboard will receive a guaranteed prize consisting of a USI Sports Service voucher and a shopping voucher, with a combined value of around CHF 500. In addition, 20 USI mensa vouchers will be drawn among those who reach 1,500 Bikecoins per month in October and November, and 5 USI Sports Service vouchers will be awarded to anyone who reaches at least 6,500 Bikecoins over the course of the entire campaign. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the initiative.
Ahead of the start of the challenge, on Wednesday, 30 September, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, the USI Sports Service will also offer a bicycle check-up session.
