Pickleball tournament

The USI Sport Service is pleased to announce the first Pickleball tournament, open to all enthusiasts, beginners and experienced players alike, for an evening of sport, fun and team spirit! Pairs can be chosen freely, either mixed or same-sex. You can also participate without a partner: we will form pairs with people of the same level.

Pickleball is a racket sport that is very popular in the USA and Australia, which reworks some of the techniques and rules of tennis, played on a badminton court. The racket is smaller and more compact than a tennis racket, resembling a padel racket. The ball is very light, made of plastic and has holes on its surface, which slow it down to make the game more practical. 
It is recommended that you familiarise yourself with the rules of pickleball before the tournament begins.

When

Monday, 1 December, from 7:20 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Meeting is at 6:45 p.m. at the Palestra della Scuola Media di Viganello for details and group formation.

It is recommended that you arrive on time so that the tournament can start on schedule.

Equipment

It is mandatory to wear indoor trainers and sportswear. Bring a bottle of water (or isotonic drink) and a towel. Changing rooms with showers are available. Equipment will be provided by the Sport Service.

Registration and payment

The registration fee is CHF 5 per person. You can also participate without a partner: we will form pairs with people of the same level.
To participate, register and pay via Technogym or at the Sport Service counter (Mon-Fri 09:00-12:30).

By proceeding with the purchase, the user accepts the instructions and rules of conduct of the Sports Service, available in the section "regulations".

Prizes

FOR USI/SUPSI STUDENTS AND COLLABORATORS

Prizes for the top three pairs:

• 1st prize: 6-month subscription Fitness Room/Classes & Games* or a Camp Weekend in Airolo
• 2nd prize: 3-month subscription Fitness Room/Classes & Games* or a 50% discount on a Camp Weekend in Airolo
• 3rd prize: Fitness Coaching or BIA Check

*Prizes can be chosen for one of two locations: Lugano or Mendrisio.

FOR EXTERNAL COMPANIONS

Prizes for the top three pairs:

• 1st prize: 2 days of activities of your choice at the Airolo Winter Base + 50% off for a companion
• 2nd prize: 50% discount for 2 days of activities of your choice at the Airolo Winter Base
• 3rd prize: Fitness Coaching or BIA Check

Terms and conditions of participation and reimbursement

To participate, you must be a USI/SUPSI student or collaborator. Registration is open until Monday, 24 November. The number of participants is limited: minimum 20 and maximum 40 people (10–20 mixed pairs).

Reimbursment:

• 100% refund upon presentation of a medical certificate
• 80% refund within 2 weeks of the tournament
• 50% refund within 1 week of the tournament
• No refund less than one week before the tournament, as in the case of non-attendance

To proceed with your refund request, please contact the Sport Service by email, indicating the event and the reason for cancellation. Refund conditions will apply based on the date of the request.
